The road to Mexican Hat

Monument Valley - 4-20-07

We were here two years ago and it is impressive now but not quite the same. We stopped for breakfast then headed north to Goosenecks.

Hwy 160 - 163 A great drive

Hwy 59 - Headed to Monument Valley

More pictures taken from out my window of the motorhome. This road was smooth, wide and almost no traffic. Our kind of back country road.

Headed North on Hwy 191

I am really having a good time taking pictures from the window of the rig while we drive. Tom is careful to keep the window clean but some of the pictures do have raindrops or shadows but they just let the viewer see my real view.

Canyon de Chelly (Shay) North Rim

As we left camp I got a picture of the rig through the trees. This campground is free and a really great place to stay. The entrance to the Canyon - tour Jeeps in the river.
The view of a fork in the canyon and the canyon floor Rain water in the rock depressions. Many of the indentations in the rock were large enough that they probably held water for the Indians.
Ruins of civilizations that they think built these 1,000 years ago.
The wind and whatever certainly makes different impressions in the rock.
More ancient Indian ruins

Each of these is a different village built in totally different places in the canyon.

Canyon de Chelly (Shay) - views from the South Rim

Below is Spider Rock. This rock face looks like it was cut by a machine.
These Indian ruins look a lot like the ones in Mesa Verde and they even think it could be the same tribe that migrated here. The bottom of the canyon was good for growing crops and grazing animals.
The floor of the canyon with a river running through it.
More views of the land used for crops.
More ancient ruins where many Indians lived.

The Canyon was beautiful and these pictures don't really do it justice.

The drive north to Canyon de Chelly (Shay)

We drove north into the Indian Reservation and had no traffic with beautiful views.

The pictures speak for themselves.

Pictures of Cottonwood - Dead Horse State Park

We hiked above the campground and this was the view. Nothing like Sedona but an ok place to wait for weather to change and get things done. Our rig and car in the distance. The campground was perfect for cold weather and solar. There were ponds and a river in the park that we enjoyed.
Our generator was declared broken when we tried to have the oil changed so we really needed the sun. We love solar ice.

Durango - April 24th

We arrived in Durango - what a change. We went from desert to mountains with snow on them. Mesa Verde had lots of snow when we went by. We were in the area 2 years ago but in late June. We are at the fair grounds with hookups so the cold night will be ok, supposed to get down to 30.

Goose Necks, Ut

We spent a great rainy day at Goose Neck. We drove through Valley of the Gods tour. It was raining on and off for over an hour of driving through the most amazing monoliths in all sizes, shapes and forms. As the rain increased the rocks became a vibrant red, orange. The mists and downpours didn't do much for the pictures but they have their own quality and memories. Tomorrow we are heading east towards The Great Sand Dunes in CO. It will take a few days to get there but looking forward to the drive. (Pictures to follow - I keep trying to download pictures but just not happening)

Canyon de Chelly (de Shay) to Gooseneck

We have just arrived at Gooseneck State Park in Utah and I am able to get on line. We spent 2 nights at Canyon de Chelly with fabulous tours of the canyon. I have so many pictures and can hardly wait until we get a good enough hookup to put them on the blog. I will try to add some pictures but this has been slow so doubt if it will work. Just wanted to communicate with everyone. It rained yesterday but not hard and the wind is blowing with storm clouds all around. Gooseneck is where we stayed 2 years ago when brother, Dave was with us in my old rig.

Return to Winslow, AZ

I have just spent too much time on line and my pictures won't download. We are at the WalMart Super Store in Winslow, AZ. We stocked up on groceries and are now enjoying dinner. Tomorrow we head north towards the Indian Res and Monument Valley.

Cottonwood Arizona

I tried to put pictures on but the internet won't let it happen tonight. We got new tires and took a hike as well as doing our laundry for the first time since we left home. Too windy to do much. I will add pictures as soon as I can.

Waylon on Easter

For those that don't watch The Davis Family Blog, here is a picture I took off their blog. Waylon is now walking most of the time but he is on the floor hunting eggs.

Out our front window

This picture was taken out the window of our rig with my new telephoto lens. Sedona was a beautiful place but we are now in Cottonwood. We got our oil changed and everything looked at. Tomorrow we get new tires. The weather is great today but supposed to get bad again tomorrow so we have no idea what we will do next.

Another Sedona Picture

Still enjoying Sedona - April 16th

I had more pictures but the download has become painful so I'll just go with this picture and add more later. We have had a great time here in Sedona, there is no dump station here so we must move. Tomorrow we are going south to Cottonwood to get our yearly oil change and new tires.
This picture was taken from just above where we are staying. This is a view point on Airport Rd.

The TV Exchange

Tom did a great job of making the new TV look like it had always been there. We found a TV that fit in the old hole almost exactly. The open hole where the old TV fit.

Sedona Elk's - Our View

We normally don't stay in towns but we really have some things to do and hopefully our mail will arrive soon.
Tom went to the VA in Cottonwood for blood tests and to buy everything else he needs to finish putting the new TV in its place. We are having dinner here tonight so I won't have to cook. :)
