In Mammoth - Sun-Tues

This is the view of my work area from the balcony. Great weather. If you look carefully my image is in the window.
It is hailing but still warm and calm. The pool is closed but Tom went to the spa just before this picture was taken.

Back from the spa, ready to relax and watch TV.

All Systems = GO

Tom hooked up the car and rig with great success so we are now ready to travel. We won't be leaving for about a week but we now know everything is ready but we still have time to fine tune the system.

Ready to Travel

Tom has changed the kayak racks to the new car leaving the truck looking naked and the FJ overwhelmed. It seems like lots of work but the new car is so much more comfortable and fun to drive it is worth it. The picture below is of our mountains as seen from The Mesa. We have not had any fires here but the smoke from So Cal has certainly traveled here. Our allergies are killing us but we are not the type to stay indoors. I can't even imagine how horrible it must be near the fires.

Back from Reno

We just returned after 3 nights in Reno to get the new car ready to tow and add the accessories we wanted on the car. Everything went well but we were glad to get home. The picture below was taken just before we left at the Bishop Country Club. If you look in the parking lot by Tom's rt elbow you will see our FJ.
I will add pictures later of the car with racks etc.

Taking the FJ Cruiser into the Mountains

We headed up into the mountains west of Bishop I got to drive and allowed Tom to sight see.
At Lake Sabrina we stopped for pictures.

South Lake was closed for the season but beautiful.

Drying Out

We opened all of the bays and tried to clean out the results of several weeks in the rain. The dry sunny weather in Bishop was very welcome.

Reno to Mammoth 10/13/07

I got so excited about the new car I forgot to show the pictures I took on the drive. I followed Tom in the rig with the FJ Cruiser. We drove out to Fallon and down Hwy 95 then headed back west to 395 just north of Mono Lake. This saved us several high passes that we always dread on 395.
The awsome views were just too much for me so these were taken while driving, just pointing and hoping. The snow was amazing. I love these mountains.
Mono Lake
Following Tom.
Mono Lake Tuffas - The sun was just right to see the exposed Tuffa but hard to photograph at 60 mph.
Mono Lake with dormant volcanos in the distance.

We are back on the Mesa 10/13/07

These are the views from our place north of Bishop. It is warm and beautiful. We forgot just how much we love it here. Mt Tom and Wheeler Ridge

Below is the view from my couch with the TV and then the mountains in the distance.

Our new Car the FJ Cruiser

We found our dream car with almost everything we wanted. The roof rack, tow package, and adaptations so it can be towed will be coming next week but we are ready to get home to Mammoth/Bishop. The old truck still looks good but we just need two cars.
The advertisement type picture of the FJ Cruiser in front of Mt Tom on my way to Bishop. Picture taken at the view point on 395 just before you start down Sherwin Grade.

Hwy 89 to 395 Mt Shasta City to Reno 10/11/07

This time I am doing the pictures from begining of the trip on. The fall colors were beautiful and Hwy 89 has been beautifully improved with only a slight increase in traffic. We had some rain but no wind.
When the rain stopped clouds sat in the valley.

All pictures are taken from my seat in the motorhome (thank you Tom for the clean windows)
The above picture was taken from the road into Susanville. It is a narrow windy road but beautiful views. We are in Boomtown west of Reno but there are no pictures past Susanville because it got too ugly to take pictures.
We are using Boomtown as a base while we car shop in Reno and hope to see Stewart and family.

The Motorhome View - Hwy 5

I decided to show the view from my seat in the motorhome. We are driving south on hwy 5 from Oregon to Weed, CA. We had rain and some wind but it was a nice drive. The pictures are in reverse order with the picture below being our exit to the KOA compground. This is our first experience with this type of campground and we hope it will be our last.

I don't know why there is so much space between pictures but the picture quality seems better than when I am on line with my cell phone. The KOA has free WiFi which has worked only sometimes.

Rest Stop -Oregon Hwy 5

We had a great time in Bandon but are glad to be back on the road. We feel like birds that began to migrate too late. We are as wet as we have ever been after being in the rain since we left the river. The rig is leaking in places we have never seen before and just want to get to Bishop so we can dry out.

Tom and Vi 10/7/07

Tom spends some quality time with his first mother in law. We are in Bandon, OR visiting Roger, Sheila and Vi. Everything is a laugh a minute.
Sheila has saved Tom's old sailor hat so he gets to share some memories.

Campsite at Tillilock, OR

We had another campsite where we looked at the ocean and here it is finally not raining. We had to air all of the bays because they had gotten wet. This is our ocean view at sunset.

Oregon Coast 10/03/07

A beautiful section of road on the way to Sandlake, so of Tillamook. We had planned to stay at our usual place near the air museum but it was closed. The lower sign says Welcome to Oregon. We were just entering Astoria
Crossing the Astoria Bridge from WA to Oregon

Fresh Water Sponge?

This is a picture from the river of our ladder at the end of the dock. We discovered these creatures or ? when we lifted it for the winter.

A Fun Walk on the Beach 10/1/07

Tom having a good laughI think I look better in a fog.
This tree has a stream running under it. I am amazed it can hang on by so little.
